2005 Rhinefarm Vinyard Tempranillo – Gundlach Bundschu

I picked this bottle up on my first trip to Sonoma a few years ago (actually, Gundlach Bundschu is the first entry in my ever expanding wine notebook).  As Kerri and I have been accumulating more wine then we can store in our cellar, we’ve been starting to work our way through the older stuff.  This little gem accompanied us on our date to the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, home of one of the coolest Saturday night activities in the city: Cinespia!  Playing on the wall of the mausoleum: It Happened One Night.

My favorite scene:

Anyway…the wine…

Original notes: Very interesting nose, complex, floral notes

On tasting: extremely complex (almost like a pinot noir), very meaty, unlike typical Argentinean Tempranillos, slightly earthy with floral notes.  Kerri’s comment: “unlike any Tempranillo I’ve ever tasted”.
