#10 Blazing Arrow – Blackalicious

Blazing Arrow is less lo-fi than A2G, and that works both for and against this album.  There is less impactful material here overall.  The one notable exception is Chemical Calisthenics.  Yes I’m biased on this one…

Aside from that guilty pleasure, I really like some of the Isley Brothers vibe that was put into this album.  First in Flight is funky and melodic, more lush than A2G.  Gil Scott-Heron adds a great vocal chorus to the piece.  Sky is Falling has a great feel and another really cool vocal chorus.  Saul Williams adds some tense spoken word on Release.

Again, when in the mood, hip-hop can move me.  There are some good cuts on this record worth your time if you are a fan of the genre.
